Our Next Event

Arbroath Heritage are delighted to announce an ambitious one day event for the 4th July 2009 which will celebrate the rich history of Arbroath and Angus.

The day will begin with a multi period living history camp, which currently stretches from the Roman period to the Napoleonic wars. This will be supported by a fish and farmers market which is always popular.

In the early evening, there will be a procession of re-enactors, through the town to Arbroath Abbey where we will have a play on the history of the area and the story of the founding of the abbey. This will be opened by the Provost of Angus.

Later at night, there will be a torchlit procession and Viking boat burning.

The event is already shaping up to be extremely substantial, and marketing will include TV and print media advertising, as well as leaflets which will be distributed around tourist information centres, hotels and similar venues.

Arbroath Heritage has an enviable reputation for hosting events of this type and we are delighted that Aberdeen based group Medieval Realm have agreed to be the lead re-enactment group.

We would like to encourage re-enactors of all periods to come and join us for what will be a spectacular day.

Authentic period traders are being offered a free pitch if they would to trade.

You can keep up to date with our progress, as well as seeing images of our previous events by following the links on the left hand side of the page.

I've been trying to find info on the 2009 event since the press article last november in the Herald.
Nothing in local press, no update to Heritage website and no reply to 2 emails.

Is it cancelled due to lack of funding?

Is it going ahead?

I'm now less than impressed!

Apologies.
Did receive a reply today, the contact had been taken suddenly ill and was recovering.

I learned that the event had to be cancelled, but would be integrated into the 2010 Tartan Week.

Great news!
